About Founders Days

The Founders’ Days Festival began in 1961 with a group of local businessmen who wanted to celebrate their community. Fifty-seven years later that tradition continues. Every year a group of dedicated volunteers work to bring families, friends and neighbors together to enjoy a family-friendly four day event, with something for everyone including: Bicycle Decorating Contest, BBQ Cook-Off, Kids Korner, Outdoor Business Expo, Family Olympics, great music, one of the longest standing parades in the state, Trivia Night and the Fireworks Spectacular over the Fox River. As an independent festival that began in 1961, there have been many individuals volunteers over the years who have given selflessly to bring Algonquin a great celebration. As the years have changed so has the festival, though we continue to be a self-sustaining festival without assistance from tax dollars. Every dollar raised brings the festival to life. Everything you see and experience through the festival is generously provided to the community by local businesses and individuals that recognize the value of our community.

Algonquin Founders Days is a full weekend event with family activities and live music planned throughout. For more information, please visit the Founders Days website shown above.

Sunday, July 28, 2019 (9:00 AM to 9:45 PM) – FREE ADMISSION

* This year, do to the extensive downtown area construction and the resulting safety issues, the fireworks have been moved from the Fox river to the event location at Spella Park. We realize this change of tradition upsets many locals and boaters who enjoy watching the amazing firework over the water, however we are excited that the music and fireworks and carnival will all share the same location as it should make for a super fun time for everyone.  So, it is under construction and we’ll party at the park this year, and next year will bring it back to the river. No  big deal.
